The leading female roles are this time in the hands of some brilliant Finnish singers…I was especially moved by the two mothers: the shooter’s and the victim’s. Anu Komsi presents the former in a genuinely moving way and delivers such thunderously clean tones and pianissimos that I am left gasping in my seat. Naturally she negotiates her throat breaking coloraturas with flying colours, but her role conveys far more depth than mere virtuosity.
