The concert programme concludes another refreshing season of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra with a selection of philosophically profound and musically fulfilling scores. The rich creative life of Richard Strauss, who witnessed the most astonishing and tragic events of the 20th century, resulted in Four Last Songs with poetry by Hermann Hesse and Joseph von Eichendorff. Meanwhile, Dmitri Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony, like his entire oeuvre, has always been a mysterious and deeply symbolic reflection of both political and inner experiences. Tarmo Peltokoski, the orchestra’s Music and Artistic Director, will take the podium, joined by soprano Anu Komsi to perform Strauss’ works.
